On the first Saturday of December, as tradition dictates, more than 30 winemakers from Ston to Mokalo will once again open their cellars and taverns to promote Plavac Mali, Pelješac’s most powerful brand. Taking part in the Pelješac Open Cellar Days will be the Museum of Winemaking and Viticulture within the PZ Putniković cooperative, the newly opened Museum of Pelješac Tradition within the Mikulić boutique winery in Mokalo, numerous family estates (OPGs) across the coastal and rural parts of the peninsula, and the beautiful Ston Kaštio, where the event will be officially opened on 6 December at 11 a.m. The hub is Potomje, Pelješac’s most famous wine village, renowned for its Dingač wines and its excellent fun. Alongside mighty Plavac and other Pelješac wines at promotional prices, the Cooperative Hall in Janjina will serve wine goulash, while Kuna will offer Kuna specialities.
The announced organised visits from all over Croatia and neighbouring countries confirm that wine lovers have recognised Pelješac as an attractive wine destination, and that the Pelješac Open Cellar Days have become an unmissable event, emphasised Slobodan Rosić, the event’s founder and chief organiser, together with the Plavac Mali and Pelješac Wine Roads associations. As early as Friday, 5 December, wine lovers and winemakers will gather in the afternoon in Putnikovići and Kuna. A dozen young Pelješac oenologists will assess, at PZ Putniković, white wines from the indigenous Rukatac and Pošip varieties and other whites, rosés, wines from Plavac Mali and other reds. In the evening there will be live music in the cooperative halls in Potomje and Kuna Pelješka.
