The greatest Kastav holiday, the Kastav užanca (local custom) for which even today all the people of Kastav and true friends of Kastav live all year round, is Bela Nedeja. The event is mentioned in the Statute of the Town of Kastav from the year 1400 and for more than six centuries has preserved the customs of Kastav and the Kastav region. On the first Sunday of October, Kastav celebrates young wine, the arrival of autumn and the wealth of customs of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County; this year that falls on 5 October. The festivities begin on Saturday, 4 October, and end on Monday. Over three days, the little town of 10,202 inhabitants is visited by around 60,000 people from Croatia and abroad. Celebrations will take place at nine locations, on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m., and on Monday already from 11 a.m.

The CrekVINA Kvarner International Wine Festival will feature 15 exhibitors. Belica, a traditional field blend of varieties, will be presented by the Kastav-region wineries Plovanić vina, Ružić, Kapić and Mandić, along with the ever-present Belica Association. From Kvarner come the Pavlomir wine house of Novi Vinodolski and the Vrbnik wineries PZ Vrbnik, Gospoja, Kuća vina Ivan Katunar, Katunar Estate Winery, Vinarija Šipun and Vinarija Nada. Exhibiting too will be the wineries Herman, Karleuša, Tudor, Mladenić i Rumac, Prskalo i Matić and Vina Marčeta. Slavonian wines are brought by Apolitico, and Vojvodina wines by the Zvonko Bogdan winery. Visitors can rent a Kvarner Wines tasting glass and sample wine by paying with tokens available at the cash desks. The photographs are from last year’s festivities, and more detailed information with the full three-day programme is available on the Bela Nedeja website.
