Sparkling wines from Plešivica and Istria skimmed off the cream at the latest tasting for Croatia’s 100 best wines this January. Pavel 2019 from the Šember winery in Pavlovčani near Jastrebarsko took top honours, while ten judges awarded second place to the Blanc de Noirs Brut 2020 from the Veralda winery in Kršin near Brtonigla. Third place was shared by the Brut Nature 2019 from the Plešivica-based Korak winery and the Blanc & Noir 2020 by Rino Prelac from Momjan.
Among the other Croatian sparkling wines included in the 100 best are bottles from Slavonia, Zagorje, Međimurje and the Kvarner region… There is still time to get hold of them, and each is worth opening for the beautiful moments ahead. Here they are in alphabetical order, by winery name: Coletti Grigio Blanc Nature 2018, Galić Code 639 Black, Ivančić Griffin Brut, Jagunić Three Stars Rosé, Kopjar Blanc de Blancs Brut, Kurtalj Cuvée Prestige 2017, Pavlomir 1288, Šember Blanc de Noirs 2018, Šipun Maličić, Štampar Urban White, Tomac Blanc de Noirs and Tomac Rosé.
