BregFest 2025 was a wonderful chance to enjoy more than 400 wines from Moslavina, Prigorje-Bilogora, Zagorje-Medjimurje and Plesivica

Hail was falling,

And beautiful wines

Warmed the soul

This is the first Saturday wine haiku of the nobilis777.space portal, and it perfectly captures the mood of BregFest, held on Friday, 24 October at Zagreb’s Lauba. The very opening of this tale from the sunny side of the hill was seasoned with a hailstorm, and the wonderful wine gathering that followed showed once again that the cellars of Hilly north-western Croatia hold the greatest concentration of exceptional sparkling wines, Rieslings and Pinot Noirs. Excellent, too, were the Skrlet and Pusipel, that is the Moslavac wines, all but absent from other Croatian wine regions, while lovers of our Frankovka and of the best-known international whites such as Sauvignon, Chardonnay and even Pinot sivi found much to enjoy. BregFest in Zagreb gathered winemakers and wine lovers of Hilly Croatia in the Lauba venue.

Most winemakers presented their favourite varieties in several renditions, that is vinified in different ways, and many exhibitors also poured Grasevina. These are, of course, different from those of Slavonia and the Danube region, which nicely shows just how versatile Croatia’s most widespread variety can be. In all, more than 400 wines were on offer from 70 wineries of Zagorje and Medjimurje, Prigorje and Bilogora, Moslavina and Plesivica, and almost every one was itself an invitation to visit the wineries and vineyard districts. Those who did not come missed a great deal. Some of the atmosphere can be conveyed to them by the photographs of Ivana Pranjic/Cork Croatia.
