Wines scoring 91 points or more at this year’s Decanter judging were presented by the Bregovita Hrvatska association at Zagreb’s Miva bistro & wine bar. The fine story began with four excellent sparkling wines. The Dominus Tradition Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature by Vina Furjan from Cestica in Varazdin County is a harmonious, technically polished and moderately aromatic medium-bodied sparkler of pronounced freshness. From Chardonnay, of course. The Medjimurje Protagonist Toni 2022 by Tatjana Hazic is 100 percent Moslavac. It has fine aromas, a rich palate and, again, plenty of freshness. 
Kopjar’s Organic Blanc de Blancs Brut, another Chardonnay sparkler, is a serious gastronomic wine, without compromise. Powerful, of Champagne-like structure, creamy, discreet on the nose but broad. The last poured was the Najman Pinot Noir, surely among the two or three best wines of the evening. Highly layered on the nose, dominated by red-berry aromas, while bakery notes appear discreetly. Full and powerful on the palate, easy to follow, super fresh, deep.
The series of four still white wines opened with the Grasevina Dvanajscak, a simple, very fresh yet highly expressive wine of very intense aroma and pleasant palate. This terroir Grasevina expressed all the specificities of the Medjimurje vineyard district. The Sauvignon Jakopic is one of the better ones in Croatia. Harmonious, with floral notes, without pronounced green aromas, but with the fruit of Petrovka apple and early pear. A very fine, layered and complex wine. 
The DeMar Rizling is mature, the colour of old gold, dense, varietally recognisable and altogether serious. They shine with Rizling and Grasevina at this winery from the Ludbreg vineyard district. Coletti Francesco Grande, a Pinot Gris from three vintages by Franjo Kolaric from Plesivica, is a powerful, mature, deep and harmonious wine. That is precisely the greatest challenge for a winemaker when blending several vintages, and Franjo has no trouble with it. 
Two macerated white wines followed. Haiku5 by the Plesivica winery Soskic is made from five varieties and has not a single weak point. It is a clean wine, of fine aroma, rich palate and ripe tannins. The Macerat CMR by the Medjimurje winery Cmrecnjak was the best wine of the evening. It shows pronounced varietal aromas of yellow rose alongside fine notes of roasted pumpkin. A refined and rich wine, super soft on the palate but not flabby, fresh, of a beautiful amber colour. 
To close came two reds. The Frankovka by Moslavina’s Klet Romic is very varietal, still young but ready. It is well arranged along every line. Well put together too is the Red, a blend of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, another wine that deserves a good score.
