Almost 300 people strolled along the Crikvenica riviera from Jadranovo to Selce at the second Food & Wine Walk, a gathering that on Saturday, 27 September, brought together blue fish, Kvarner wines and good music with plenty of cheer. To keep the walk from becoming tiring, the 12-kilometre route had eight refreshment stations, each offering its own food and the wines of different producers. And to avoid crowding, walkers were divided into five groups setting off every half hour.
At the start in Grabrova, strength was gathered over sparkling wines of Kvarner varieties, while the nearby Feral tavern offered tuna pâté along with Žlahtina and Sansigot from Kuća vina Ivan Katunar. The Sveta Lucija wine association, meanwhile, fortified walkers with prosciutto and wine, and in Dramalj the Domino tavern welcomed the walkers with a fish skewer and Šipun wines. There were two Žlahtinas on hand, a standard bottling and one under the Hlam 9 label from the vineyard site of the same name, plus Sansigot and the red Hlam 9 of Sansigot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
The Burin restaurant prepared a mackerel fritter with chard and salt-cured vinćol served with rice, a piquant salsa and tomato, alongside Pavlomir wines, while Le Moon of Hotel Esplanade served polenta cake with sardines, mozzarella and tomato paired with Gospoja wines. The Crikvenica restaurant Dida fortified walkers with an exceptional rock-samphire and lime orzotto with tuna confit and Kapić wines, and Konoba Ulika in Selce with a corn zlevka (savoury cornmeal cake) with anchovies and vegetables and the wines of Katunar Estate Winery.
At the finish there were sweet surprises from Kavana Anka: award-winning strawberry and hazelnut ice creams crowned the best in Croatia. There, too, one could taste wines of other Kvarner wineries and dance to excellent live music. Almost every step was thus a bite and(or) a sip of pleasure, an experience to remember that compels a promise: see you again next year!
