Although DunavFest in Vukovar began on 26 June, its culinary and traditional peak comes on Saturday the 28th. At 4 p.m. on the Danube promenade, the preparation of the longest wide noodles begins; at 5 p.m. the fair’s offerings open; and at 5.30 p.m. the cooking of a great communal fiš (fish paprikash) for all visitors gets under way. The main gastronomic attraction of Saturday will surely be the Fišijada – a fiš-cooking competition that draws teams from all over Croatia. Amateur cooks and cauldron masters will compete in preparing fiš to old recipes, with secret spices and, as they like to stress, with plenty of love. The cauldrons will be smoking all along the promenade, and visitors will be able to taste them. At 9.15 p.m. the best will receive their awards. There will certainly be wine, too…
