The Frlan restaurant in Vivodina is renowned for its lamb. The family’s hospitality tradition began back in 1905, and they planted vineyards so they could serve their own wine. Ivan Frlan is the fifth-generation owner of the tavern and says that Pinot Gris suits his lamb best. He also makes Graševina, Chardonnay, yellow Muscat and, of course, Rhine Riesling. That is wine enough for serious tasting at the festival on Saturday, 22 November, at Hotel Capital in Zagreb, at Jurišićeva 22.
From nearby Krašić, more precisely the hamlet of Kostel Pribički, Željko Šimanović is also coming to the Capital. A civil engineer, he made his name in the wine world ages and ages ago with his outstanding Frankovka, and perhaps his greatest accolades so far came in 2019 in Dubrovnik. His Traminac ice wine 2012 was the highest-scored wine of the Dubrovnik FestiWine Trophy, and his Graševina ice wine 2012 was among the best sweet wines. Rizling Raj(n)ski is a chance to show how superb a wine he also crafts from this royal variety.
