Daruvar Pairings, the sixth elements, is a gastronomic programme of seven local restaurants offering at least one dish this winter built around immune-boosting ingredients such as sage, garlic, ginger, chilli, turmeric, horseradish and honey… They are designed to pair with craft beers or Daruvar wines, as well as natural lemonade and homemade yoghurt. Diners choose their favourite Daruvar drink, and the restaurateurs suggest the dishes that best suit it. The drinks, in other words, choose their own dishes. The offer is available at Black&White, Greenberg, Queen, Little Italy Pub, Orijent, Srce and Terasa.
The idea is excellent, and the combinations are many. Some are expected, some unexpected, and some, to put it mildly, unusual. Here are a few suggestions from each restaurant:
Black&White
Staročeško beer and a Baranja pancake with kulen
Greenberg
Graševina Sur Lie and lamb shank with sweet-potato purée
Queen
5TH Element IIPA and marinated chicken wings
Little Italy Pub
Ginkgo tea and gnocchi with beef fillet, red wine and Grana Padano, or a chocolate lava cake
Orijent
Homemade yoghurt with linden honey, or meat burek
Srce
Graševina Daruvar with drunken carp or grilled pikeperch
Terasa
Epoha sparkling wine and beefsteak spread with warm flatbreads, or tačkrle filled with jam
