The Sosich family winery has been engaged in winemaking and viticulture since 1850, when the first family vineyards were planted. Today the winery is run by Adriano Sošić, who represents the fourth generation of winemakers in the family, while his mother Marčela and wife Iva play a major role in the day-to-day work and running of the estate.
Sosich Wines farms eight hectares of its own vineyards set between the valley of the Mirna river and the road linking Kaštelir and Vižinada, on prime micro-locations in one of the finest viticultural zones in Istria. Alongside grapes from its own plantings, part of the fruit is purchased from regular, trusted growers around Vižinada. The rich varietal mix in the vineyard comprises Malvazija Istarska, Chardonnay, Muškat Bijeli (White Muscat), Teran, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A broad selection of premium labels, spirits and olive oils
The winery is highly recognisable for a rich portfolio numbering some fifteen wine labels. Alongside the fresh styles, the cellar’s standouts are the aged La Pregiata Malvazija (from 40-year-old vines) and the powerful Il Teran di Nonno Giorgio, aged two years in French oak. Their range is further distinguished by top-quality sparkling wines made in the classic method (Pas Dosé, Exclusive and Perlage) and an exceptionally broad selection of as many as fifteen local liqueurs and rakijas, among them teranino, medica, biska and the unique olive liqueur – Ulika.
Alongside the tasting room at the winery itself, the family also owns its own retail outlets (tap rooms and wine shops) in Novigrad, Tar, Funtana and Vrsar. There, alongside wines and spirits, they also offer their high-quality extra virgin olive oil, made from the fruit of the buža, istarska bjelica, pendolino and leccino olive varieties.
